Few years ago, I was disappointed of the world, its creatures and their behaviors. With teary eyes, once I was telling a friend that how bad the world has acted upon me. Hearing all my accuses to the world, all he told me was "Be the change you wish to see in the world!". I spent some time thinking of it. I wrote it on a wall of my room, as it helped me to stay on my feet when the world turned its back on me. Later on I got to know that it is not something my friend told me himself, but a quote by Sir Mohandas Gandhi. No matter who told it, knowing that really helped me in getting through hard times.
After some time, suddenly this quote came to my head again. I was testing myself to check whether I realize the meaning of it. For so long, what I realized was; "I will change myself. if everybody does it, then the whole world would be changed." But for some reason today I felt like this is not going to work. Either what I had understood is not what it really meant or may be my perception of the world may be incorrect. But I think its worthwhile mentioning, since what is mentioned here is what I feel.
"Be the change you wish to see in the world!"
According to what I had realized up to now, if someone does not wish to get hurt, he must not hurt the others. Obviously, anyone other than a utter selfish fool will realize this and act that way. Though I am not trying to be mathematical here, I must mention that the issue comes with the question; 'What is the measure of hurt?' Considering the human mentality, the intensity of the feelings differ from person to person. What may hurt someone may not hurt another, hence the unhurt person may never realize that there is something to be changed within himself. There is a level of consciousness that comes along with ones birth and that level may be improved by a small fraction when that person continues to live in the society. Although it is possible to teach someone how to think or how to build a logical concept, unfortunately, it is impossible to teach someone how to feel. One has to realize it himself and nothing can be done regarding the dizzy part of his consciousness.
Thinking and writing this way, I sure may have hundreds, thousands or millions of unrealized facts within myself. Badly I am also one of the creatures on the earth. According to the level of my consciousness and knowledge, there is only one way to deal with the world which someone expects to be changed. That someone is got to realize that it is not going to work until he realizes that he has to change himself to accept that the world is what it is and it is out of his control. As long as he understands his limits and the un-limitedness of the world, he may never want the world to be changed. The path to peace is not the change of the world, but to realize its un-controllable nature and to show mercy on those who has not got enough ‘karma shakthi’ to realize what others feel!
